The Dobrée Museum takes its name from a wealthy 19th-century collector and patron from Nantes, Thomas Dobrée, who bequeathed his impressive collection and neo-medieval palace to the city.
Today, the site comprises three iconic buildings:
- the neo-medieval house;
- a 15th-century manor house;
- two 20th- and 21st-century extensions in the heart of an Anglo-Norman garden.

The museum houses more than 2,400 works dating from prehistory to the 19th century. Highlights include:
- the funerary casket of the heart of Anne of Brittany, a precious historical relic believed to contain the Duchess's heart;
- a Gallic coin, the obverse of which is inspired by the Greek god Apollo;
- the Rezé lararium, a set of sculptures designed to protect a household or neighborhood;
- a Flemish and Italian cabinet of curiosities in the form of a chest.
