The Estuary Route
The Estuary Trail between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire is a unique outdoor art trail in France, dedicated to contemporary art.
Created in 2007, it features 33 monumental works designed to showcase the banks of the Loire.
The trail can be explored by boat, bicycle, or even on foot year-round.
A unique stroll between nature reserves and industrial buildings that will delight all curious visitors!
Throughout this 60-kilometer open-air museum, some thirty works by international artists dot the banks of the river.
Among the iconic installations, "La Maison dans la Loire" by Jean-Luc Courcoult intrigues and fascinates.
This strange, semi-submerged dwelling, like an uninhabited shipwreck, is located just 12 minutes from the Atlantys Hotel in Saint-Herblain. Other unusual works mark the route, such as "The Ocean Serpent" by Huang Yong Ping, a huge sculpture representing the skeleton of a reptile washed up on the beach of Saint-Brévin-les-Pins, or "The Rings" by Daniel Buren and Patrick Bouchain, which illuminate the Quai des Antilles in Nantes.
Between dream and reality, these installations are sure to take you on a journey!
Beyond its artistic aspect, the Estuary Trail offers an opportunity to discover an exceptional heritage site. Simply follow the "Estuary Trail" signs.
You'll be able to glimpse old shipyards, marshes, ports, and typical villages along the route.
